Assessment

PROCESS

  • In clinic Cognitive Assessment session.

  • Feedback appointment for parent

  • Completion of diagnostic report - approx. 3-4 weeks after assessment appointment

 

​Please note: Additional appointment/testing may be required for assessments needed for school funding (eg. Vineland Assessment) and additional fees will apply in these cases. This will be discussed with you if applicable. 

ASSESSMENTS TOOLS

WPPSI - IV - Overview
The Weschler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence is a fun and engaging assessment to measure cognitive development for preschoolers and young children. ​

This assessment measures ability across five areas of cognitive functioning as well as producing a composite score that represents overall intellectual ability (FSIQ). These five areas are:

  • Verbal Comprehension

  • Visual Spatial 

  • Working Memory 

  • Fluid Reasoning 

  • Processing Speed 

 

Ages - 2.5 yrs - 7yrs 7mths​

This assessment also provides the following:​

  • General Ability Index and the Cognitive Proficiency Index is provided to enhance understanding of the young person's cognitive profile.

WISC- V - Overview
​The Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children–Fifth Edition (WISC-V) is the current version of a widely-used measure of intelligence. It is also an assessment recognised by the Department of Education for funding applications. The WISC–V requires the administration of 10 subtests to calculate a full scale IQ score which represents overall intelligence. 
​The subtests also contribute to the calculation of five index scores that reveal the child’s unique strengths and weaknesses, as well as comparing them to age-matched peers. These five areas are:

  • Verbal Comprehension 

  • Visual Spatial 

  • Fluid Reasoning

  • Working Memory 

  • Processing Speed​​

 

Ages - 6 - 16yrs​

​This assessment also provides the following:​

  • General Ability Index and the Cognitive Proficiency Index is provided to enhance understanding of the young person's cognitive profile.

 

REFERRALS & REBATES

  • No referral is required for testing, however information regarding need for assessment will be required (eg. from Paeditrician/school/teachers)

  • There is no claimable rebate from Medicare for Cognitive assessment, however if your child is funded through NDIS the assessment may be payable by NDIS (please check with your case manager prior to assessment).  The assessment/feedback session may be claimable on Private Health Insurance if you have appropriate coverage using item number 100, (please check with your insurer)

ADDITIONAL PSYCHOLOGY ASSESSMENT

  • The need for other assessments will be discussed with you following the intake process and will be depending on your needs.

LANGUAGE ASSESSMENT

  • If you have also been referred for a language assessment then a copy of this report is required prior to your assessment appointment. Therefore, your assessment should be booked for a date AFTER the speech assessment has been completed and you have the report.

 

ON THE DAY

  • The Cognitive Assessment will need to be conducted without the parent in the room.  Parents will be asked to wait in the wait room while the assessment takes place, however should the child be uncomfortable with strangers please ensure that you discuss the assessment process with the child prior to attending. We will always endeavour to make the child as comfortable as possible.

  • Bring any other reports that you have regarding the health and development of your child if unable to email prior to appointment.
