ASSESSMENTS TOOLS
Psychologists use educational assessments to help...
-
identify individuals who are significantly below and above their peers in important academic areas
-
identify individual strengths and weaknesses among academic areas
-
evaluate progress in academic areas in response to specific literacy intervention programs
-
determine whether an individual has a Specific Learning Disorder in reading (aka dyslexia).
WIATT - III - Overview
The Wechsler Individual Achievement Test (WIAT-III) is a comprehensive Australian & New Zealand normed standardised achievement test.
The WIAT-III is frequently requested by parents and school wellbeing leaders who are seeking detailed information to inform the development of Individual Learning Plans (ILPs).
The WIAT is particularly useful when combined with the WISC-V so the achievement results can be considered in context with the cognitive abilities of the student.
Psychologists use the WIAT-III to help:
-
identify the academic strengths and weaknesses of a student
-
inform decisions regarding eligibility for educational services, educational placement, or a diagnosis of a specific learning disorder
-
design instructional objectives and plan interventions

ADDITIONAL PSYCHOLOGY ASSESSMENT

A typical referral for an 'Educational Assessment' will include having both an IQ (WPPS/WISC/WAIS) assessment and an WIATT. At times a Vineland Assessment will also be required, for information on those assessments and individual fees, please see the Assessment Tab)
LANGUAGE ASSESSMENT
-
If you have also been referred for a language assessment then a copy of this report is required prior to your assessment appointment. Therefore, your assessment should be booked for a date AFTER the speech assessment has been completed and you have the report.
ON THE DAY

The Educational Assessment will need to be conducted without the parent in the room. Parents will be asked to wait in the wait room while the assessment takes place, however should the child be uncomfortable with strangers please ensure that you discuss the assessment process with the child prior to attending. We will always endeavour to make the child as comfortable as possible.
-
Bring any other reports that you have regarding the health and development of your child if unable to email prior to appointment.
